Why is this form needed?
The BSA and the Greater St. Louis Area Council have established several guidelines for a safe and quality camping experience. Among them, packs are only permitted to camp at council-approved sites that have been evaluated to ensure they provide suitable amenities and accommodations. Council-operated camp properties, state parks, and national parks are automatically considered approved and don't necessitate any further assessments. All other sites must be approved by the council following a site appraisal and submission of the site appraisal form. The person submitting this form will receive a response within one week.
What is a pack overnight family camp?
- Packs can conduct overnight campouts. A pack overnight campout can be a great way to get to know the families in the pack and to work on outdoor adventures.

- In order to conduct an pack overnight campout at least one registered adult leader who is attending the campout must complete Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training.
Who can conduct a site appraisal?
- Individual packs are not authorized to conduct their own assessment.
